Melissa Rigazio, IIDA
I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1985 and went on to earn an Associate Degree of Applied Science from the Harrington Institute of Interior Design. Upon graduation in 1989 I began my design career at ISD Incorporated, an esteemed interior architecture firm specializing in contract design for Chicago’s leading law firms.
In 1992 I entered into the field of production design working as an art director, set designer, set decorator and illustrator for a variety of feature films, educational films, commercials and music videos. While thus expanding my creative opportunities I continued to design and space plan commercial and residential interior projects.
Upon my 1997 move from Chicago to Los Angeles, I refocused my energy and ability on interior design working as an independent consultant with Nadel Architects, Pickett Designs and Pei Partnership Architects.
Following the birth of my first daughter in 2000 I opened my own design firm , working primarily in the residential sector, in and around Manhattan Beach, California. In 2006 I passed the NCIDQ exam and subsequently joined IIDA as a professional member. In 2009 I moved to New Castle, NH where I now live with my husband and two daughters.
Light is everywhere. It affects everything from our moods and sleep patterns to our ability to perform tasks and enjoy fine art. Ironically it is often the most overlooked element in design. Good lighting is more than an array of decorative fixtures; a successful lighting plan balances aesthetics with practical considerations to achieve true illumination.
